Antioquia is one of Colombia´s 32 departments. Located in the Andes region, the area has an as astonishingly varied geography. To emphasize are the mountain areas and the large number of different climate zones, plants and animal species. Antioquia owns enourmous natural resourses and is an outstanding scenario for the practise of adventure toursim. In this section we offer a selection of adventure activities in Antioquia.

Activities

CLIMBING.

In mountaineering, climbing is a sports activity that consists of realizing ascents on walls of strong earring, using the proper physical and mental force. In general, special footwear is used as the only help. Any ascent that is difficult or impossible to realize only with the low extremities (feet and legs) and requires the use of the upper extremities is considered climbing. There are heights of considerable danger, so use of professional equipment and climbing skills is crucial.

CLIMBING IN ANTIOQUIA

The Peñol rock (La Piedra del Peñol).

This giant rock makes part of the Antioquia’s Batholith. It has a 200 meters maximum height and there are routes of 4. to 9. Grade (France) or from 5-5 to 5-13 Grade (USA) difficulty level.

The Peñol rock was climbed the first time 50 years ago and sports climbing has been practised for 15 years.

There are more than 40 climbing routes of different difficulty levels, from very soft to very hard. The rock is of pure granite and a variety of skills and techniques may be used. Rock climbing can be realized by any person between 8 and 55 years of age.

1 day climbing on the Peñol rock

Already got some climbing skills? This is the right activity for you. Start with a 15 minutes walk to the rock and following abseiling of 35m height. Spend the day climbing several routes of different difficulty levels.

Duration: 8am – 2pm.
Dates: all year round.
Ratio: 1 a 8 participants.

Climbing training on the rock

The granite of the Peñol rock offers an excellent terrain to learn good climbing techniques. The way you may move on the rock is amazing.

Place: Theory and practise on the Peñol rock in Guatape.

Dates: All year round.

BASIC COURSE.

You learn to climb on different routes. We teach you knots (tying in), rope systems, equipment handling, progression skills, securing, belaying and abseiling.
Duration: 4 days, theory and practise.

ADVANCED COURSE.

Duration: 4 days, theory and practise.
If you are already a climber and want to learn new skills and types of climbing like classic (traditional), artificial, sports climbing, big wall, etc. enroll to this course.
