Forgotten are the days of the Medellin Cartel. The capital of the department of Antioquia has since changed very much for the better and has undergone a profound transformation. The pillars of this transformation are education, public transportation and social urban planning.
During this guided experience you will learn more about this fascinating process. The highlight will be a visit to Comuna 13, an invasion territory whose residents have suffered greatly from the influence of armed groups and military operations in the past. This part of Medellin has undergone a profound transformation to the better and is now a showcase of change through wide collaboration among the local community and the youth hip hop movement and cultural centers.
We will show one of the six cable car systems Medellin. In the year 2004 the city of eternal spring was the first city in the world to build cable car systems as a means of public transportation integrated into the metro system. Finally the inhabitants of the remote neighborhoods in the hills around Medellin had a fast connection with the city centers. During a ride in a gondola you will enjoy spectacular views of this city embedded in the andean mountains.
You will learn more about Medellin's history and visit the park of lights, National palace and the statues of the world famous artist Fernando Botero during a walking tour through Medellin's historic city center.
