Hiking, Traditions and Rituals – Karmata Rua Ancestral Territory
During 1980, the Embera Chami indigenous people recovered their ancient territory called Karmata Rua, which is located close to the colorful village of Jardin, about 3 hours drive from Medellin.
For this ethnic group it is of upmost importance to pass the traditions and the own language from generation to generation.

The Emberas have an extensive knowledge of the natural medicinal plants of the surrounding forests and during the hike they will explain you properties and uses of some selected species. Your day starts with a cleaning ritual to prepare for your experience. You will walk along the mountain ridge and enjoy the incredible view over the lush and green andean mountains. On your way you will cross enormous coffee fields.
After the Mountain Hike we enjoy a typical lunch prepared by an indigenous family.
In the afternoon we will witness a traditional dance and afterwards during a workshop we will learn how to weave handicrafts like bracelets and necklaces.
And of course we will have the opportunity to get insights about the daily life of the people of Karmata Rua and to interact with them.
Important: You should be in shape for this hiking route as there is some steep terrain to walk at the beginning of the Hike.
