Providencia and Santa Catalina Archipelago
“Heavenly Providencia” is the second largest island in the archipelago, which includes San Andrés, Providencia, Santa Catalina, los cayos de Rocador, Quita Sueño and Serrana. The third largest coral reef in the world is located here! Providencia and its neighboring island of Santa Catalina represent a tourism of relaxation and away from daily noise. The hilly landscape and lush vegetation form a wonderful contrast to the Caribbean Sea. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the Colombian Caribbean are located here. Location:Western Caribbean Sea, 775 km (480 nautical miles) northwest of the Atlantic coast of Colombia and 220 km from the east coast of Nicaragua.
Climate:Warm with average temperatures of 27 ºC, increased rainfall can be expected in the months January to June.
Fauna and Flora:The island is surrounded by a large coral reef and a rich fish world. Especially in Providencia, reef sharks and hammerhead sharks can be observed in places.
