GORGONA ISLAND NATIONAL PARK – THE EDEN OF DIVERSITY IN THE PACIFIC OCEAN

The colombian national park Gorgona island is located in the Colombian Pacific ocean, located 28 km west from the colombian pacific coast and 1 hour and half speed boat ride from Guapi, Pacific coastal harbour town. Gorgona Island was a prison from 1960 to 1984, until President Belisario Betancur (1982-1986) closed it and the islands were declared a National Natural Park in 1983, mainly for scientific research. Gorgona is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Gorgona is a destination for nature lovers and divers. Only surpassed by Malpelo island, Gorgona offers the best diving in the colombian pacific ocean. In spite of its size , the island has a great richness in fauna. It´s an excellent place for Scuba diving and likewise a privileged location for Humpback whale watching between the months of July and October. The best time for diving is from May to October. In addition to schools of fish such as Big eye jacks and barracudas, whale sharks, manta rays, whitetip reef sharks and large tropical groupers can be encountered. From mid December to April the water is colder and less big fish and schools can be found.

GORGONA ISLAND DIVING AND ACCOMODATION PACKAGES:

We offer diving and accomodation packages on Gorgona island, diving is offered by the PADI island diving center. There is no minimum number of dives required to participate in diving activites on Gorgona island, but please take in mind that you may encounter strong currents and you have to be able to manage it.

To get to Gorgona island you are required to take a flight from Cali to Guapi with Satena or Easy flight airlines. Satena allows 20 kg checked baggage and 5 kg carry on luggage, Easy fly allowance is 15 kg checked and 5 kg carry on luggage. (not included in the prices below) Once you arrive in Guapi a representant from Gorgona island will pick you up and assist you with the transfers with Tuk Tuk (mototaxi) to the harbour and the boat ride from Guapi harbour to Gorgona island. (1 hour and half boat ride each way). When leaving Gorgona island its the same procedure back. This transfers are included in the package price.

HIGH SEASON: December 16 to January 31, Eastern, June 15 to October 31 and long weekend holidays (Friday to Monday)

LOW SEASON:  February 1 to June 14 (Except Eastern), October 31 to December 15 (Except long weekend Holidays)

Schedules

Please note that the dates selected for entry and exit of the island must coincide with boat schedule, they are operating on Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Days of arrival or departure other than those scheduled will have an additional cost and will be handled as an express boat.

Departure: Monday - Wednesday - Friday, boat Gorgona - Guapi 6:00 am.
